Summary:

The whispers of his name grow into chants. Muad’Dib. Muad'Dib. Muad'Dib. She could kill a thousand men, and still the first one after would utter his name. It is pointless to run from it, to hide from it. She knows this. She does not bother with lying to herself about a truth as fundamental as this. She cannot escape him.

But for a time, life is simple.

And then it is not.

Reccer's Note: The movies really gave Chani more of a personality than in the original books, and this fic builds upon that work. Shows Chani grappling with the fact that the man she loves became the Emperor and promptly started using her people, the Fremen as his own private army in blatant violation of the self-determination that she believes in. I think it does a good job on selling a narrow path to reconciliation between Chani and Paul, where they get back together but on more equal terms. Chani gets to know the types of pressures Paul is working under, and backs him not as an idol who can do no wrong but a man carrying out goals that match hers.

Will note, the Dune movies contain a creepy fetus that can communicate telepathically with the mother while in the womb, and this fic also has uses of that in a more sympathetic way. It's not exactly an anti-abortion screed, but I feel like it's worth noting because of what this comm is for.
