Summary: My momma told me I should never watch Sci-fi but I did, I did, I did.

Reccer's Notes: This vid is a classic: a joyous tribute to women in sci fi, inviting us on a journey through female characters in sci fi history, with seamless editing to a pitch-perfect song. I love the overall celebratory feel of watching this, but at the same time it doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the ways that sci fi as a genre has treated its female characters. I was surprised to realize that it was first posted back in 2011 (what even is time!); I remember this one so vividly, and have returned to it multiple times!

Note: The download link for the vid wasn’t working for me, and I was only able to stream it on YouTube once I logged in with a Google/YouTube account (not sure if that will be the same for others).

This vid packs such a nostalgia punch! Great editing and a fantastic selection of characters. This is the reason this version of the song gets stuck in my head from time to time even though I prefer the original, haha.

Right here! It was originally written as a parody of an old soldier song for some opera, if I'm remembering right. Much as I like the spacey feeling of the Imagined Village version, I think the almost western vibe of the original is fun considering the kind of pulpy sci-fi it's probably referencing. What I really like about it over any of the covers is that it has a couple extra verses that flesh out the narrator's life a bit after finding her "super man" and I think the last couple lines especially make a great impact.

You're welcome! And I'm glad you enjoyed listening! It seems to be pretty obscure now, so I'm always happy to introduce more people to it.
