Fic Rec: Least Complicated

Fandom: Yellowjackets
Fanwork type: Fic
Pairings/Characters: Van/Tai
Rating and/or Content Warnings: Teen And Up Audiences
Links: least complicated
Summary: "You killed out there, dude,” she says, quiet enough that the others shouldn’t hear. Taissa relaxes visibly at the sound of her voice, lifting her leg down from the bench. Her gaze doesn’t soften in the slightest, though, somehow getting even darker.
“You’re – Vanessa Palmer, right?” Taissa says, and being recognized by this girl is dizzying enough that Van manages not to flinch at her full name. There’s a first for everything, Van supposes.
“Only to my mother,” she says, forcing a chuckle, as if it’s funny rather than an ever-present bruise. “And to Coach Martinez, I guess. Everyone else calls me Van.”
“Van,” Taissa repeats, an exhale, and all the air leaves Van’s lungs, too, with a relief she’s never felt before — as if she’s been holding it in for hours, or days, or even her whole life.
[or, scenes about being seen.]
Reccer's Notes: Oh my heart! So far this has two chapters, one from each POV, and it deals with their time at school before the crash happens. The way they see one another and sticks up for one another really got to me, and the voices are great.
